Catskill 3500: Indian Head
Saturday, May 30, 2026
Indian Head Mountain is the easternmost peak of the Devil’s Path, whose deep, dark ravines inspired fear in the early Dutch settlers. Legend has it they thought only the devil could walk such steep, treacherous terrain. Today’s hike takes you up and over Indian Head’s triad of features, forming the profile of a face. You’ll scramble both up and down while carefully navigating the rock faces. From this mountain’s viewpoints you’ll see stunning views of other Catskill tall peaks and the Hudson River Valley.
This is a required peak for Catskill 3500 Club Membership and #30 Catskill Tall Peak (elevation 3,574’).
