Green Mountains: Mount Mansfield

Saturday, June 12, 2021

For multi-day trips, as a precaution, we ask that you get a COVID-19 test 3-5 days prior to the trip. For this trip, please follow Vermont’s quarantine guidelines.

Come on an adventure to climb the tallest peak in Vermont – a place where alpine tundra survives from the Ice Ages.

We’ll stay among meadows and mountains in remote log cabins, situated quite literally at the end of a road. After a relaxing evening away from it all, we’ll attempt the summit of Mount Mansfield, the tallest peak in Vermont. The mountain is home to true alpine tundra and breathtaking views of the surrounding Green Mountains. On our hike, we’ll summit three other peaks: Adam’s Apple, The Nose, and The Forehead. These funny-sounding names come from the visual features of the mountain. When viewed from east or west, Mansfield has distinct features of a human profile.

After a full day, we’ll make our way back to the cabins for a good night’s sleep. The next day, we’ll head back to New York, but our adventure is not over yet!  On the drive back, we’ll visit the tallest point in Massachusetts – Mount Greylock. You will have the option of doing a short hike to the summit or staying in the van for a drive up to enjoy the views.

Day 1 (June 12th)

We’ll depart at 7:00 am, stopping for lunch on the road. After arriving at our log cabins, we’ll get situated, then do a leisurely hike on the vast surrounding property. We’ll stretch our legs, have dinner, then turn in early.

Day 2 (June 13th)

After breakfast and a drive to the trailhead, we’ll start our ascent of Mount Mansfield. The ascent will be challenging, but we’ll take our time. At the summit, we’ll take in breathtaking views of the Green Mountains and admire the alpine flora that only exists in two other places in Vermont. We’ll spend the rest of the day on the trail, hiking the peaks that form the features of the human profile of Mount Mansfield. We’ll return to our cabins for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Day 3 (June 14th)

After a good night’s rest, we’ll eat breakfast and start our drive back to New York City. On the way back, we’ll stop at Mount Greylock, the tallest point in Massachusetts. There, you’ll have the option of doing a short hike to the summit, or staying in the van for a drive up.
