Guide’s Choice – Fall Foliage Catskill 3500: Wittenberg
This fall we are picking amazing destinations to see fall foliage! And this mountain is Guide Gary’s pick for top two places to see foliage in the Catskills. Check out Gary’s second pick.
Wittenberg Mountain, also known as ‘The’ Wittenberg, is a favorite of many Catskill hikers for its rustic trails, beautiful scenery, and stunning summit views. John Burroughs, the famous naturalist, reached its summit only after a “long and desperate” bushwhack attempt back in 1880. Even though we are ascending a steep climb, our hike today is guaranteed to be more straightforward than his, yet equally as rewarding. The views are magnificent! And if time allows, we might even make our way over to Cornell Mountain.
This is a required peak for Catskill 3500 Club Membership and #14 Catskill High Peak (elevation 3,782′).
