Adventure Untamed and Mindful Wilderness are teaming up to offer you a blissful weekend in the country. This backpacking retreat brings you hands-on practice and years of accumulated experience on how to prepare and execute your first backpacking trip or camping adventure. We will be sharing the basics of gear, shelter, water, food, and fire. You will also learn how to troubleshoot your gear, plan your meals, make a fire, and everything in between. This one-day and one-night retreat features the following:

  • Shelter: how to pick the perfect spot to set up your tent, putting up your tent in 5 minutes or less, various types of tents and set ups
  • Fire: how to start a fire from scratch even in wet conditions, finding materials, building structures, lighting hacks
  • Water: various types of water filters and how they work
  • Food: how to ration and cook your food, types of stoves, cooking on the open flames/coals, edible plants

The retreat space features a natural stream with a watering hole, fire pit, outdoor showers, homemade vegetarian meals (dinner, brunch) and various types of accommodations. Our intention for this weekend is to create a safe space where you can practice what you learn and get comfortable sleeping and living outdoors.

About your lead guide: Alexandra is an herbalist, wilderness guide and sound practitioner. She focuses on building health through nourishment and working with local, accessible, abundant plants. Alexandra grew up learning herbalism from her grandmother and has studied under the guidance of Susun Weed since 2017. She believes that herbalism is accessible to everyone. All we need is to follow our curiosity and get our hands in the dirt, the plants teach us the rest! She is a New York State certified camping and hiking guide and a Wilderness First Responder.
