Adirondacks: Great Range Traverse
Wednesday, July 3, 2024
Up for a challenge this summer? The Great Range Traverse is the stuff of hiking legends – “a glorious outing that summits many of the Adirondack 46ers in a nearly straight line.”
It is as beautiful as it is challenging. We’ll be doing a lot of scrambling, which makes this hike so unique among the other long-distance hikes in the Northeast. The weather is unpredictable. The slopes are steep and challenging. And it’s all completely worth it!
This hike is tough (and has the most intense rating on our scale)! Fortunately, we are taking two days to do the route. This will allow us to take more time to enjoy the route, while still going at a strong pace and challenging ourselves.
We’ll go light, Withe just day packs. And because we are coming back to our accommodations after the first day of hiking, you can elect to do a shorter route on Day 2 if Day 1 proves to be a little too intense.
Join us on this challenging, beautiful adventure!
Experience: This trip is for experienced hikers with Catskill 3500 and Adirondack 46er expereince. Please contact us at info@adventureuntamed.com for more information.
Accommodations: Bunk rooms at TMax-n-Topo’s Hostel (real beds, linens, electricity, and all the comforts after a tough day on the trail :)).
Day 1 (July 3)
We’ll depart at 7:00 am, stopping for lunch on the road. After arriving at the hostel we’ll go for a short warm-up hike. That evening, your guides will cook you dinner, do a gear check, and we’ll all get a good night’s sleep before starting the Great Range Traverse the following morning.
Day 2 (July 4)
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll start the Great Range Traverse! There will be ups, downs, and scrambles as we enjoy breathtaking above-treeline views on the ridge. We’ll spend the night back at TMax-n-Topo’s Hostel..
Day 3 (July 5)
After breakfast, we’ll take on the second portion of Great Range Traverse. Once we climb back up to the ridge, we are in for a treat with more 360-degree views and attempting the summit of Mount Marcy, the tallest peak in New York State . We’ll spend the night back at our hostel, have dinner, and a good night’s sleep.
Day 4 (July 6)
You will have a choice to get up early for a short hike or rest and sleep in. After breakfast, we’ll make our way back to New York City.
All meals are included, except for food on the drive to and from the destination. We are a vegetarian company and happy to accommodate dietary restrictions.
